'I only went shopping but broke both my legs'

A MUM has told of her agony after a trip to the supermarket left her with two badly broken legs.
Kerry Hyatt, 30, had put her groceries away in her car and was returning her trolley when she was run over in the Sainsbury’s car park in Witney.
But the mum-of-three said the horrific incident had been made even more painful for her because the driver did not come to help.
And only two weeks after the incident Mrs Hyatt, of Blakes Avenue, Witney, was able to leave Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital in a wheelchair.
She broke two bones in her left leg and shattered her shin bone in her right in the incident involving a blue Ford Fiesta at about 4.15pm on Saturday, May 12.
She told the Oxford Mail how her 10-year-old daughter Charleigh had heard her mum’s screams as she waited in the car.
Mrs Hyatt said: “I was pushing my trolley into the trolley park and the next thing I know I had been hit and run over by a car.
“I was on the floor screaming in agony.”
She added: “My whole world has been turned upside down.
“I was just nipping out shopping with my daughter. We were in and out in 45 minutes. It was just bizarre.
“I have never been away from my children for two weeks. I am really angry about it all. It’s not just going to affect just me, it affects my whole family.”
The stay-at-home mum, who also has two-year-old twin sons Archie and Henry, had surgery on her legs on May 18, and she left hospital on Friday, May 25.
She described the pain as “excruciating and horrific”.
It will be six weeks before she can put any weight on her left leg and her right leg is likely to be in a support cage for more than three months.
Her husband James, 35, has not returned to his London IT consultant job.
He said: “Our lives have been turned upside down.
“She was just going shopping. We were going to have fajitas that night while they watched the Britain’s Got Talent final and then all of a sudden my wife doesn’t come home for two weeks.”
He said: “I am still in shock. I can’t believe my wife has two broken legs. It is going to be a big upheaval on our lives.”
The couple wanted to thank shoppers and staff at the store who helped Mrs Hyatt.
Carol Glynn, 66, from Finstock, near Charlbury, has been reported for careless driving and failing to stop following the incident.
Police are investigating and she could be summonsed to court by the CPS.
Anyone who saw what happened can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Children watch shopping centre stabbing attack - Sydney Morning Herald
Children, related to a man stabbed multiple times at a Blue Mountains shopping centre, watched as the attack unfolded, police say.
Members of the public rendered first-aid to the 41-year-old, who suffered life-threatening injuries during the attack at the Hazelbrook Shopping Centre shortly before 6pm, acting Superintendent Paul Glinn of Blue Mountains Local Area Command told the Blue Mountains Gazette.
He said the argument started in a shop before spilling out into the car park.
"He sustained a number of wounds to the chest and the neck, which were considered life threatening last night," he said.
"It would appear that it wasn't a random incident. However, the exact nature of the relationship between the people is something which is still being investigated."
There were reports the attack may have followed a schoolyard fight earlier in the day, but acting Superintendent Glinn said he was unaware of any such connection.
"Certainly it's the case there [were] some children and other people present in the area at the time that the incident has occurred.
"There were a number of children there that I believe are related to the 41-year-old victim."
Ambulance crews stabilised the man before he was flown to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery overnight.
A 50-year-old man was arrested about 7pm yesterday and was charged at Katoomba police station this morning with reckless wounding causing grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear before Katoomba Local Court today.
Police expected to interview the victim either tonight or tomorrow morning and were also interviewing between 20 and 25 witnesses, acting Superintendent Glinn said.
"Consistent with any shopping centre, Hazelbrook Shopping Centre at 6 o'clock on a Monday night, there'd be a lot of people there," he said.
"There's a train station nearby, people would be walking home, so there certainly would be people about the area going about their normal day-to-day business."
It was unclear how many times the victim was stabbed and police were still unclear what weapon was used in the attack, he said.
CCTV from the area would also be used in the investigation, he said.
"Any incident whereby it's alleged that somebody may have been in possession of a knife or some other sort of weapon whereby some injuries have been occasioned to somebody else is of significant concern," he said.
"The good thing from our perspective is it's not something that occurs on a regular basis and it would appear that this is a one-off incident.
"The exact nature as to what was used is unknown and ... from our perspective, if anyone was there that witnessed the incident and has not made themselves known to police, we'd ask they make contact with police so that we can follow up any information they may have."
