AUSTIN, Texas--(2012 Red Herring Top 100 Americas winner, honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the North American business region.
)--Artisan Infrastructure, the wholesale Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider, said today it has been selected as a“We’re humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award from Red Herring”
Artisan Infrastructure’s wholesale only IaaS model has emerged as the industry leader, which has been widely validated through their adoption by MSPs, CSPs, ISVs, SaaS and PaaS providers serving the channel and retail markets. Artisan Infrastructure’s Cornerstone virtual Private Data Center (vPDC) provides these entities the autonomy, control, security, and visibility to build, manage, and own their cloud solutions leveraging the best-of-breed, infinitely scalable, geo-diverse, wholesale IaaS partner.
Red Herring’s Top 100 Americas list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work.
“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Artisan Infrastructure embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Artisan Infrastructure should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”
“We’re humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award from Red Herring,” said Brian Hierholzer, CEO of Artisan Infrastructure. “Our rapid success, and Red Herring’s recognition of our wholesale only IaaS model, validates the necessity for a pure play, wholesale, IaaS partner that has no interest in retail subscribers or the solutions they subscribe to. Furthermore, Artisan Infrastructure does not sell any cloud based solutions like PaaS or SaaS - our customers do. We feel the only way to enable our service provider customers is to draw a clear line in the sand. We won’t compete with them when it comes to any solution whatsoever. There is no in between; either you are a competitor, or you are a partner. Our customers have chosen Artisan Infrastructure because they want to do business with a true partner, not a competitive threat. The entire team here at Artisan Infrastructure wants to extend our sincerest thanks to our current wholesale and alliance partners; without their strong support and assistance we wouldn’t be here today.”
Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration. This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of startups relative to their sector peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in the Americas.

Children watch shopping centre stabbing attack - Sydney Morning Herald
Children, related to a man stabbed multiple times at a Blue Mountains shopping centre, watched as the attack unfolded, police say.
Members of the public rendered first-aid to the 41-year-old, who suffered life-threatening injuries during the attack at the Hazelbrook Shopping Centre shortly before 6pm, acting Superintendent Paul Glinn of Blue Mountains Local Area Command told the Blue Mountains Gazette.
He said the argument started in a shop before spilling out into the car park.
"He sustained a number of wounds to the chest and the neck, which were considered life threatening last night," he said.
"It would appear that it wasn't a random incident. However, the exact nature of the relationship between the people is something which is still being investigated."
There were reports the attack may have followed a schoolyard fight earlier in the day, but acting Superintendent Glinn said he was unaware of any such connection.
"Certainly it's the case there [were] some children and other people present in the area at the time that the incident has occurred.
"There were a number of children there that I believe are related to the 41-year-old victim."
Ambulance crews stabilised the man before he was flown to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery overnight.
A 50-year-old man was arrested about 7pm yesterday and was charged at Katoomba police station this morning with reckless wounding causing grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear before Katoomba Local Court today.
Police expected to interview the victim either tonight or tomorrow morning and were also interviewing between 20 and 25 witnesses, acting Superintendent Glinn said.
"Consistent with any shopping centre, Hazelbrook Shopping Centre at 6 o'clock on a Monday night, there'd be a lot of people there," he said.
"There's a train station nearby, people would be walking home, so there certainly would be people about the area going about their normal day-to-day business."
It was unclear how many times the victim was stabbed and police were still unclear what weapon was used in the attack, he said.
CCTV from the area would also be used in the investigation, he said.
"Any incident whereby it's alleged that somebody may have been in possession of a knife or some other sort of weapon whereby some injuries have been occasioned to somebody else is of significant concern," he said.
"The good thing from our perspective is it's not something that occurs on a regular basis and it would appear that this is a one-off incident.
"The exact nature as to what was used is unknown and ... from our perspective, if anyone was there that witnessed the incident and has not made themselves known to police, we'd ask they make contact with police so that we can follow up any information they may have."
Shopping and dining while having their lives saved! - Examiner
I was at the Coconut Grove Gallery Walk this past weekend and noticed a lady walking with an oxygen tank, it was unobtrusive except for the hose going up to her nose. I didn't ask, but after we engaged in conversation (we all do at gallery walks), she mentioned she was in Miami, visiting from Central America, because she was here for medical treatment. She was seeing an oncologist and getting treatment at one of the local hospitals.
What I found interesting was that while here, she was enjoying the art at the Gallery Walk and also visiting restaurants, shopping malls and spending money on a hotel stay while here for her treatment; and she had her whole family with her, all here enjoying what the city has to offer, spending money and having her live literally saved in the process!
Tourism was way up in Miami in 2011 thanks in large part to a 7.2 percent increase in international visitors to 6.5 million. But how many were here not so much to enjoy the sand, sun and fun, but for medical treatment? Many! That's quite a large chunk of the tourism budget.
Large amounts of money flood the area in the form of medical tourism and many people in the know, cater to these special clients. An unknown aspect of medical tourism is that the tourists pay for their own medical care, they don't use medical insurance, and in the process, they not only spend money on hospitals, doctors and medical treatment, but they spend money on hotel stays, restaurant, shopping and more and the patient usually has family members along for the duration.
Navigating the US healthcare system is no simple feat, even for us Americans. Patients needs much needed medical treatment, but how do they begin? This is where medical concierge companies come into play, like ORNOA (Oncology Referral Network of America).
ORNOA is a patient navigation service developed by Miamian Maria Freed. They've treated over 500 patients in almost two years.
"We provide patient navigation services for these members, and also direct patients to non-members because the goal is to match the patient to the most appropriate provider in South Florida. In light of the continued loss of professional income and the impending 27.4% reduction in Medicare reimbursement , local private practice physicians are starting to pay attention to the international market," says Maria.
In the last 18 months, 70% of the patients have been insured, and 30% were self pays. Medical concierge services negotiate fees for patients that have no insurance. Physicians are attracted to international cases because they offer higher reimbursement than Medicare or Medicaid local patients. In Miami Dade 1/3 of residents have no insurance coverage.
International health insurance carriers are looking for value, and no longer automatically refer to the big hospitals in South Florida, because they deem their fees as too high and service offered to their patients is not optimum. Medical Tourism continues to evolve with many more patients seeking care in places other than the U.S. However, there are still more people who travel to the U.S. for healthcare yearly (approximately 3 million) than travel to any other country.
The strongest service lines for international patients coming to South Florida include oncology, orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular, general surgery and pediatrics.
The next time you're lying out at the pool and shopping at Dadeland, consider the fact that the person right next to you may just have had their life saved last week!
